Jensen’s Boatyard
Dear members of the community,
We would like to address recent misinformation regarding the future of Jensen’s Boatyard at the Port of Friday Harbor.
Contrary to rumors, the Port has no plans to close Jensen Boatyard or to develop condominiums on the property. Instead, we are dedicated to enhancing the boatyard by relocating the travel lift to deeper water, improving overall efficiency, and investing in various upgrades.
Notable improvements already completed include the reconstruction of the barge landing, expansion of parking facilities, upcoming construction of enhanced restroom facilities, complete rebuilding of Jensen Marina, and ongoing dock renovations at Shipyard Cove.
The Port remains steadfast in its commitment to preserving a vibrant working waterfront and is actively investing significant resources to realize this vision. As part of this endeavor, an environmental cleanup will be conducted, which may require temporary adjustments to the layout of the facility. However, please rest assured that there are no plans to suspend operations during this process.
Additionally, the current leaseholder of the chandlery will be vacating at the end of June. The Port is actively engaged in securing a new locally-operated chandlery and is confident in finding a suitable replacement. Moving forward, the Port will continue to manage the boatyard and boat lift operations, ensuring equitable scheduling for all local marine contractors and maintaining the option for boat owners to perform self-work on their vessels within the yard.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we strive to enhance the Jensen Shipyard and uphold the vibrant maritime community of Friday Harbor.
